Not Your Typical Weekend Update...
Wow. This is not our regular weekend update. Sit down, because this gets a little scary. And WE ARE ALL FINE. We spent the weekend at the campground. It was pretty crowded being the last "big" summer weekend, but still relaxing and enjoyable. Last night there was a street dance, which is cool because a local band plays and they play out by the pool, which we can see from our lot. The kids like to dance to the music, and Kyle and I enjoy sitting by the fire and listening to the music. We headed to bed about 11:30 or so. After we'd been asleep for a while, Michelle, our neighbor on the corner, was banging on our trailer screaming "Kyle get up! Someone lit our shed on fire and they got yours too!" Needless to say we were flying out of bed and getting into the yard. As soon as we opened the door you could feel the heat coming from their shed. Kyle went right out and put our gas can (yeah, that's terrifying!!) and his golf club bag out with our fire extinguisher. Michelle came around the backside of her trailer and saw a light flickering in our shed. The jerks had lit those two things on fire, and she grabbed the gas can and sat it down in the yard away from everything, and another guy grabbed Kyle's golf bag (the clubs are fine Bob!!) and threw those into the yard. I stood in the doorway assessing the situation and deciding whether or not the kids were safe. I made them all sit on the couch, while Kyle put pants on. Yep, he was sporting the boxer briefs while he was outside. Not funny, but come on, a little funny! After I got them all on the couch I put on my bra...and pants...yeah, again not funny, but a little funny, and put up the awning. I then grabbed the kids and put them and I into the Excursion so that if necessary, we could get the hell out of there quickly. At this point our neighbors shed was shooting huge flames up into the sky, and four guys, including Kyle, were using garden hoses to try to keep their trailer wet and cool enough to not burn also. The fire department showed up and put the fire out. In the meantime, Michelle's parents were up from Florida. A weird twist we discovered last year - Michelle's mom and I worked at Consumer's a long time ago together. Anyway, her dad has a prothesis...after a motorcycle accident he lost from the knee down of one of his legs. As he got out of bed he thought he had it locked on, and didn't, and fell onto the trailer floor. Already hurt, he went back into the trailer for some medicine he needed, and fell out of the trailer without touching a step. His wife took him to the hospital and we since have learned that he has a cracked pelvis. He's in a ton of pain, but Michelle said thankful that he wasn't being treated for burns. At this point, there isn't much to go on as far as evidence goes, or who did it. We ended up with yellow "do not cross" tape all over our site as well as the neighbors, obviously, and spent most of the morning in shock and answering questions from passersby. CRAZY. So thankful no one was hurt. Oh, back to the beginning, Michelle and her daughter were sleeping in the back of the trailer and Michelle felt warm so she kicked off the blankets without opening her eyes. Right after that, another camper knocked on the trailer yelling that their was a fire. If she hadn't been woken up, both sheds would have burned with their trailer sandwiched between the two. It would have gone up in flames, and I'm not sure the 4 of them would have gotten out safely. We probably would have continued to sleep as well. I can't even convey how unbelievable this all was. I'm so thankful she figured out things in our shed were on fire. She saved not only our shed but possibly our lives. And so thankful for that guy that woke them up, he was seriously a real hero. After being awake from 4-7:30 or so this morning with this stuff, we're all going to bed EARLY tonight. The kids are all in bed at 7:15, and Kyle and I are headed that way with a movie and plan to turn in early as well.
In other news, Cory, Brad, and Zach start school tomorrow. YEAH! OK, maybe I'm more glad than them, but YEAH! Nick and Kaila start Wednesday.
And speaking of Kaila, she had a great birthday on Friday. She's SIX and hot stuff...like she wasn't already! I'll post pictures tomorrow. I'm too tired and lazy feeling to go downstairs and get the camera. Hope you all had a great QUIET labor day weekend!!!

I am so glad that you guys got out of this terrible thing with a burnt gas can and some "crispy clubs". I did have to laugh at the lack of clothes in the story. How funny?!
I am so glad you are all safe! That is such a scary event but think of the stories the kids will have to write about their summer, forget D.C. and the Shenandoah River! And I have to smile at the thought of Kyle re-telling the story. Wish the kids a good first day from me (when does Miss Madison start school?) ssh
This is so not funny! Thank God you are all safe and sound, Beth! I hadn't been online for a couple of days ... Grandma told me about it this afternoon! Again, thank God you're all ok and hopefully they'll find some evidence as to who could have done such a sickening and heartless thing!
Love to you!
oh my gosh, i'm glad you guys are OK!!! how scary. hope they catch the turds that did it. glad to hear Kaila had a nice birthday =)
very scary- yet I love your humor...even in the craziest of all and scary times - you find something to laugh about. Again, another quality that makes you so awesome.
Glad everyone came out ok and that you are all safe! Hope they can do some CSI work and figure it out! Bust Em!
Well, my stomach sure did a flip-flop when I read this. It makes me so mad that people can be so stupid. Thank God, you're all safe. Take care. Love ya all. Hope to see you soon.
Yeah, I guess I just second everything that has already been said. It is amazing how a few short hours can truely rock your world.
Lots of love, katymc.
