A Good Night
Dad and I took the kids to see Susan tonight. It's been a while since I've seen her. Baseball kept us running ragged, so Mom took them for us, and Bob too. So tonight, it was great to see her. The kids were pretty well behaved. It's hard, they're excited, competing for her attention, and in a strange place, so they are never ANGELS, but then, when are kids angels? So our visit was nice, we laughed at Dad (sorry, but it's true), laughed about stupid old family things, provided her with a pop and candy bar, and just talked. We stayed til they kicked us out, and neither of the kids cried when we left. They both said they miss her, but no big teary fit on the way out. I don't know if that is good or bad, but for me, it is good. I think it just means that they are understanding the situation, and feel comfortable and safe with us.
We took Kyle's jeep over, so on the way home, we opened the sunroof and jammed to 60's and 70's music. The highlights were hearing the kids singing "Celebrate Good Times" by Kool and the Gang, and Dad and I jamming to Van Morrison's "Brown Eyed Girl." Kaila was totally cute - when she finally heard the chorus to "Brown Eyed Girl" she smiled HUGE and said, "Aunt Beth, I have brown eyes!!" It was so adorable!
Well, that's all for tonight. And probably for the weekend. I'll check in with ya'll on Sunday. Off to the campground for the weekend, a night of family fun and then a night of scrapping madness :) Have a good weekend!!

TGIF! Have a great weekend! ssh
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, for all you do =)
you're awesome.
Hey, Beth, I know it is likely none of my business, but I've never been able to figure out when your stint as adoptive parents began and when it will end? (Or why, but that's definitely not my business, so don't answer that.) I sure feel for those kids, and you guys are all in my prayers. They are probably just getting more used to the situation, and probably more comfortable where they are with you. I'm glad you guys are able to keep them seeing Mom, one way or another, and helping them to maintain that relationship. Susan must miss them terribly, and every day without them is probably torture. I hope it won't be long before their family can be back together again for keepsies.
Bless you!
I guess I don't think about the fact that I have readers that don't know! Susan and her husband are both incarcerated. They made some poor choices, put their family at risk, and are now paying for it. Kyle and I stepped in willing to raise the kids while they were without a mom and dad. My b-i-l should come home late in 2007 and my sister sometime in 2011. Forever away it seems. That's the sad story friend!! but in the meantime we're happy to have them and provide them with some stability, laughter, and comfort!
Wowee, I knew where they were, but didn't realize it was for so long! Holy smokes--those poor kids must try not to think about it, because 5 years to a 6(?) year old really IS forever! Hopefully they will be able to do well with Daddy, though, in only another year.
Tough times. Good thing kids are resilient, and I'm so glad for their sakes that you guys are helping them make the best of it.
Beth, I wish we were neighbours--I think we would be great real-life friends.
