Nick and Kaila

Well, I had this long post all typed last night and clicked something I wasn't supposed to and it was GONE. I was too tired to type it again!

Yesterday I arranged for a new daycare for Nick and Kaila that will take state aid and allow them to stay at Northwest Schools. That was a huge weight off my shoulders. Both yesterday and today I've been in contact with Nicholas' counselor, and today at about 2:00 I'm going to take he and Kaila in to school so I can meet with the counselor and Nick's teacher. I talked to Kaila's teacher yesterday, who happens to be married to a teacher at Western Middle School. We've met before at YMCA games, so I know who she is! She said Kaila is doing great emotionally and academically. Nicholas is struggling with reading, but seems to be gaining ground. I will get more information today I'm sure.

Bobby has been sentenced to 21 months in prison. That time could be shortened to 14 months if he is granted "good time". It was hard to watch he and the kids this morning, but he handled it fairly well and reminded them that he loved them and to BE GOOD!!

So we've spent most of today settling them in to their rooms, and making them feel at home. They are playing with toys, watching TV, and Kaila is calling "Aunt Beth..." every 3 minutes, so it's just like my kids only they call "mom"!!

Before this week I was fearful that I wouldn't be able to handle the addition of two kids, and do it well. I think I had a sort of epiphany though, and now realize that this is truly a blessing. Kyle are able to take on the responsibility of two more kids, and are able to do it fairly well. We have a roof over our heads, clothes on our back, jobs, cars, and 6 kids that now look to us as role models. And hopefully above all, we can provide Nick and Kaila with some stability and structure in their lives. I'll keep you all posted :)

If anyone can do it it will be you and Kyle. You guys are awesome! I'm really proud of you for steppin up to the plate like this. I certainly hope Susan and Bobby appreciate it. I'm afraid foster care would have left them damaged for life. Here Maddy will just probably teach them to swear (like they don't already know that)!! See you tomorrow.

Love
Karen

I agree with Karen! Bobby and Susan are lucky to have the awesome two-some, Beth & Kyle, to take over and help raise their children while they are away. I cannot think of two better role models! Please remember when you are ready for the Beth & Kyle time...Miss Kandi will come babysit! Or whatever....I have a van that can tote kids here and there too!!
