Nick and Kaila - Part II

Wow. I went to school to meet with Nick's counselor and ended up meeting with his teacher, counselor, principal, and special ed teacher. Yes, special ed. All along we'd been told that he was just behind in reading, and today I found out that he's learning disabled in all language arts (reading, writing, spelling, comprehension, etc.) and math. He receives two hours a day of individualized instruction. The meeting went well though, with both the school personnel and I committing to communicating and keeping each on the same page. Then I took the kids and went to the new daycare they'll be starting tomorrow. The kids immediately liked Tammi, although Kaila was a little shy at first. By the end of our half hour visit, they hugged her goodbye. I made them their favorite meal (at least that's what it is today...) - spaghetti. After dinner, Kyle and I sat down with Nick and helped him with tonight's homework - to write down 5 predictions for the new year. We took our time and helped with the first and last ones, but he came up with three on his own, 1.) Uncle Kyle will shoot a deer this year, 2.) the Tigers will win a game this year), and 3.) it will rain on Nick's birthday. He was really proud of himself and even stayed in his seat and wrote Susan a letter. At the same time I had Zachary across from me studying his spelling words, math facts, and doing his reading, and Cory and Brad were both doing their 15 minutes of nightly reading also! I felt like I was running a little schoolhouse!

Mom came over tonight with Christmas gifts for Nick and Kaila - more Tinker Toys! So the kids played with those for a while tonight. Well, I'm trying to keep the kids quiet and in bed - this is no small feat, they think it's a sleepover! Susan also just called again to check on the kids and make sure they were OK. I told her that they were doing good, and right now, they think it's a big party! Well, that's all for tonight!! Here's a picture of Nick and Kaila from tonight :)
